Description

The Wooden Camera VX Skateboard Camera Mic is a new version of the Sony VX1000 microphone adapted for modern cameras. It features four capsules arranged in the same orientation as the original VX1000 and a digital signal processor that emulates frequency compression.

The included 3.5 mm right-angle TRS cable connects the VX Mic to DSLR cameras, handycams, RED DSMC2 cameras, and other cameras with 3.5 mm stereo inputs. Cameras with two XLR inputs require the XLR Y-cable adapter, the VX Skateboard Camera Mic, sold separately.

The internal LiPo battery provides over 48 hours of continuous operation when charged using the included USB-C wall adapter. External USB power banks (not included) can be used to charge and power the microphone simultaneously.

The mount attachment at the bottom of the microphone attaches to the camera. If additional accessory mounting space is required, consider the VX Skateboard Camera Mic Horseshoe Mounting Bracket, which provides two additional mounting points and a 1/4-20 screw.

Why is this product important? The Sony VX1000 was introduced in 1995 and changed the look and feel of camera microphone videos. The internal microphone design was particularly effective at capturing crisp sounds compared to previous Hi-8 cameras. Since the transition to HD, there were no standards for audio capture, which is why no two videos had the same sound quality. You might notice that recent videos emit unpleasant thumping sounds when someone jumps down stairs or hollow creaking noises when someone is on a ledge. This is because the microphones used are not ideal for the subject. Enter the VX microphone. Wooden Camera reverse-engineered the way the Sony VX1000 captures and processes audio and then integrated it into a tiny, modern design.
