Many photographers appreciate shooting at low ISO to minimize noise as much as possible. In astrophotography, fast wide-angle lenses are often chosen because they allow you to work in low light. The 14-24mm F2.8 DG DN | Art was developed as the ultimate large-diameter wide-angle zoom lens by optimizing features that allow you to photograph starry skies with full-frame mirrorless cameras. The uniform rendering and excellent peripheral resolution make it the ultimate lens for astrophotography. By taking advantage of the short flange focal distance of mirrorless cameras, this next-generation bright zoom lens combines both a compact design and unprecedented high-resolution image quality.

The product name includes DG when the lens is designed to deliver optimal performance on devices equipped with full-frame sensors, and DN when the lens design is optimized for mirrorless cameras with a short flange focal distance.

High-resolution image quality developed with exclusive low-dispersion glass elements and NPC (Nano Porous Coating) treatment

One FLD glass element and five SLD glass elements are integrated to suppress chromatic aberrations right to the edge of the image. Three aspherical lenses, including a large-diameter aspherical lens at the front of the lens, are used to effectively minimize flare, coma, and other aberrations, resulting in stunning resolution. The « super multi-layer » coating is combined with a new NPC (Nano Porous Coating)*. The lens has been designed to be as insensitive as possible to strong incident light such as backlighting.

SIGMA’s unique new coating technology, « NPC (Nano Porous Coating), » incorporates porous silica as the coating material. The porous silica layer contains nanometer-sized pores filled with air. The presence of pores of this size significantly reduces the refractive index, lowering reflectance even more than conventional anti-reflective coatings. As a result, reflected light causing flares and ghosting is greatly reduced, leading to optimal image quality.

The use of a stepping motor enables silent and very fast autofocus. Shooting is comfortable even in subject-detection autofocus modes, such as face and eye AF, and during video recording. The AFL button, which can be assigned to various functions, enhances the lens’s functionality. It also features a dust- and splash-proof construction, and the front element has a water-repellent coating, making it easier to shoot in challenging conditions.
