Description
Introducing the Teradek RF-X
Teradek RF-X is an intelligent auto-switching system designed to ensure optimal RF redundancy and superior video quality in professional broadcast and AV environments. Capable of monitoring up to six redundant Ranger or Bolt receivers, it automatically selects the strongest video signal based on RF strength and then delivers a single, continuous, and uninterrupted output.
Designed for congested RF environments, the Teradek RF-X ensures zero-delay , user-required transmission . It is particularly suited to broadcast productions, live events, and film shoots requiring maximum reliability.
Intelligent architecture and automatic switching
The system combines multiple SDI outputs from Ranger or Bolt receivers into a single SDI output. Thanks to its RF power analysis algorithm, it automatically selects the best available source, eliminating the need for a dedicated operator for manual switching.
This approach makes it possible to significantly increase the coverage area by networking the receivers to create a cost-effective and efficient mesh RF configuration.
Professional 12G-SDI and SFP Fiber Connectivity
The RF-X features six 12G-SDI inputs and two 12G-SDI outputs, ensuring full compatibility with professional video infrastructures. An SFP (SDI Fiber) allows two RF-X units to be connected via fiber optic cable to extend the range (SFP module and fiber cable sold separately).
Control and configuration are performed via a Web UI through Ethernet or via USB-C for firmware updates and access to the web interface.
Rack integration and physical control
With a 1/2 rack width and 1RU height , the RF-X easily integrates into a mobile control room or broadcast equipment rack. It features an OLED display , physical buttons for manual control, LED status indicators, and a front-panel on/off button. Power is supplied via a dedicated 2-pin input.
Practical cases: Teradek RF-X in a real-world environment
In a stadium or racetrack, the RF-X ensures continuous coverage despite RF interference and long-distance camera movement. In film production, it guarantees a stable signal even in complex sets or indoors with multiple obstacles.
It is particularly suited to medium to large-scale sporting events, conferences, and environments subject to extreme RF interference.
Frequently Asked Questions:
1. How many receivers can the RF-X handle?
The system can monitor up to 6 Ranger or Bolt receivers simultaneously and automatically select the best performing signal.
2. Does switching generate latency?
No, the RF-X operates with zero delay, ensuring smooth and uninterrupted video output.
3. What types of video connections are available?
It has 6 12G-SDI inputs and 2 12G-SDI outputs , as well as an SFP (SDI Fiber) port for fiber extension.
4. Can two RF-X units be connected together?
Yes, via the SFP Fiber, it is possible to connect two units to extend the range, provided that a compatible SFP module and fiber cable are used.
5. How is the system configured?
Configuration is done via a Web UI interface through Ethernet or via USB-C for firmware updates and interface access.
