Introducing the Aja ColorBox
Aja ColorBox is a compact, high-performance converter for color-managed workflows. It is specifically designed to meet the conversion needs of broadcast, live event, and on-set applications. Supporting Standard Dynamic Range (SDR), High Dynamic Range (HDR), and Wide Color Gamut (WCG) signals, it utilizes 12G-SDI and HDMI 2.0 for single-wire 4K/UltraHD HDR up to 4:2:2 10-bit 60p or 4:4:4 12-bit 30p with a unique color processing pipeline.
ColorBox comes with a range of several pipelines; you can select a specific pipeline for your production needs. Here are the five available:
- AJA color
- Colored forehead
- ORION-CONVERT (requires a license to remove the watermark)
- BBC HLG LUTs (requires a license to remove the watermark)
- LUT NBCU
Built around a 33-point 3D LUT processor with tetrahedral interpolation, AJA Color Pipeline provides four additional 1D LUTs and two 3×3 matrices, each individually configurable as either Process Amplifiers or RGB color correctors. Easily manage color processing options via the web-based user interface, accessible directly from a wired Ethernet connection or wirelessly via a third-party USB Wi-Fi adapter.
The converter also offers a pattern generator and image store, providing useful tools for your workflow, including the ability to capture up to a 4K image as a 16-bit .tiff file. Aja ColorBox can even overlay information onto the image, including user-definable text fields.
It has a total latency of less than half that of a video line, so a live signal can be processed and output in real time. This also reduces lip-sync issues in live event productions where every frame counts. Applications range from IMAG and LED volume to in-camera visual effects and everything in between.
