Image Stabilization:
The EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM incorporates a three-stop Image Stabilizer (IS), making it ideal for handheld shooting. Shutter speeds up to three stops slower than normal can be used without increasing camera shake. The main movement in a given direction is automatically interpreted as panning, and the Image Stabilizer is then deactivated for that image.

The ring-type ultrasonic motor enables extremely fast and virtually silent autofocus. Thanks to excellent static torque, the focus point is reached precisely, without inertia.
