Two XA (extreme aspherical) elements in an optical design that meets G Master requirements contribute to high resolution across the entire image. Three ED (extra-low dispersion) glass lenses are included to suppress chromatic aberrations. This innovative optical design minimizes sagittal coma for accurate reproduction of point light sources.

The advanced optical design faithfully reproduces point light sources.
An optical design with two XA lenses eliminates sagittal coma, a common aberration in wide-aperture lenses. Sagittal coma can cause artificial scattering of point light sources, especially at the edges of the image.

Innovative optical design in a compact and lightweight lens.
A new optical design reduces the overall diameter of the lens by using two XA elements, one of which is for the front element, which is typically the larger of the two. The lens also features the new Direct Drive SSM (DDSSM) focusing system. Thanks to its small size and featherweight 445 grams, it is ideally suited for compact E-mount cameras and ensures maximum portability.

An 11-blade circular aperture optimizes the light, natural bokeh achieved through advanced design and a manufacturing process that includes precise control of spherical aberration. A minimum focusing distance of 0.24 m and a maximum magnification of 0.17x allow for a magnification capability that, combined with the lens’s wide-angle view, can produce superb perspectives.

Fast, precise, and quiet autofocus.
A new, ultra-powerful DDSSM offers approximately three times the dynamic range of the previous focusing system. The increased power of the new DDSSM enables faster, more precise, and quieter autofocus for exceptional performance.
