Description
Introducing the Sony SMAD-P5
The Sony SMAD-P5 is a digital Multi Interface (MI) shoe adapter that allows you to mount the URX-P40 UWP-D series receiver on select Sony cameras and camcorders equipped with an MI shoe. The adapter eliminates the need to connect cables, speeding up your setup in the field.
If your camera is equipped with a digital MI shoe, the adapter provides a direct digital audio connection between the URX-P40 receiver and the camera, bypassing the A/D and D/A conversion stages to deliver high sound quality with low noise.
If your camera is equipped with an analog MI shoe, the adapter can be switched to provide an analog audio connection.
The adapter also offers seamless integration with mirrorless cameras (7II, 7III, 7RII, 7RIII, 7RIV, 7S, 7SII, 9, 6600 and 99II), camcorders (XDCAM PXW-Z280/Z190, PXW-X180/X160, PXW-X280/X200*, PXW-Z150**, PXW-FX9, PXW-FS7, PXW-FS7II, PXW-FS5, PXW-FS5II, PXW-Z90 and PXW-X70), displaying microphone information in your camera’s viewfinder, including RF levels, audio mute status and transmitter low battery alert.
In addition, the SMAD-P5 allows the receiver to obtain power from the camera, while the camera can synchronize power on/off with the receiver, unifying power management.
Practical use case
During a documentary shoot with a Sony PXW-FS7 in the field, a production team might need a quick and efficient solution for capturing high-quality audio. By using the Sony SMAD-P5 with the URX-P40, they can wirelessly connect the transmitter’s microphone to the camera via the Multi Interface (MI) shoe.
